We've just noticed that the engine mount buffers are falling apart on our 205 XS - autotest tomorrow. The buffers aren't the individual ones like on a GTi but they're on a U shape bracket which sits on top the engine mount, then the engine bracket goes on top of that.

We've found the Peugeot part at the dealer this morning, but the part is discontinued. Should we just drill holes in the inner wing/engine mount bracket and fit GTi buffers and shims, or is there anywhere to get the U-shaped buffers, preferably uprated ? If they'll fit ok, the GTi buffers should be better as uprated ones are widely available.

Any advice/experience appreciated.

Oli - all I can say is that I get my uprated GTi ones from Baker Bushes & Mountings here

Thanks Andrew. We've spent a lot of time looking at the pictures - all the other mounts should work except for the buffers. The VIN of our shell shows that we're right on a change date so earlier/later cars may use the GTi-type buffers.

Due to the shape of the inner wing/engine mount it doesn't look as though we can use the individual buffers by drilling additional holes in the mount, we'd have to drill low through some double skinning then couldn't fit the nut on the back.

An alternative would be to drill through the bracket and bolt the buffers to that, but that could cause the bracket to crack.

If we can't think of another way we'll cut the stud off the buffer and glue the individual buffers to the existing U-shaped bracket.

This should be an easy 10 minute job !

This is similar to what I'm after :

http://www.106parts.com/s2/page1.php?area2=2&sitepage=7&area3=50&area4=213&part=11538

The only difference with mine is that the actual rubber parts are shaped like the GTi individual buffers instead of the "loops" in this picture.

Now to see if I can find somebody who makes an "uprated" version.

What age is it? Mine's on a G and is identical to a GTi as far as I know.

Ours is on an F plate. Will have to fix it soon as we're out on the Bullnose on 4th September.

Our car seems to be right on the change date for the buffers. I'll have to think of the XS as a 106 !

I've had both the old & new shells, only difference is the actual metal plating on the inner wing where the engine mount sits in. Like said the newer type are the same as the GTI, old one it different. For the life of me I car'nt remember what I did, sorry. I must have either stuck with the original bush or made the GTI ones fit, I deffo did'nt buy any. maybe use GTI rubbers, cut threads off & weld (tack on) the old XS frame or make a new bracket. Also while your there put a 3rd engine mount in (a GTI one sidways facing the wing). This will stop the engine moving sideways & helps stop it jumping out of gear Cool
